Families with Children

Families with children of all ages are welcome at Union Baptist Church and we have special programs designed just for them.

Junior Church

For children ages two through grade 5 we offer Junior Church Sunday mornings. Children will attend the opening portions of worship service and will follow our adult leaders to Fellowship Hall directly after the Family Ministry Moment.  There leaders start with sharing and prayers. This is followed by a scripture lesson, snack, and craft or game. Rev Lonnie shares the week’s scripture with leaders and they try to design the lesson around it. The children look forward to the "Science Second Tuesdays" lesson once a month.

The goal is to make Junior Church educational, fun, and interesting for the children. Children participate in the decision-making process. The group is currently working on a way to help local homeless people. Another activity Junior Church does is to write or make cards for UBC members.

One goal for 2024 is to incorporate music into the program.

Family Ministry Moment

Each Sunday, after the offering, the children come forward to the front of the church for the Family Ministry Moment (FMM). There they hear a message related to the week’s Scripture, shared in an age appropriate, fun, and interactive way. There is usually an anthem sung by the choir after the FMM and the children proceed to Fellowship Hall after enjoying it.

Crib Room

Childcare for infants, up to age two, is available in our Crib Room from 9:00 am through 11:45 am. The Crib Room is located next to the Church Office and is accessible from the side entrance on Library Street. Every first Sunday of the month our volunteers teach the young children an age-appropriate lesson related to scripture lessons. Our skilled childcare worker and her helpers will take good care of your children.

Youth Volunteers

We welcome UBC’s youth from grade 5 to age 18 to volunteer to help with children’s programming and to get to know the younger children personally. Youth are also needed to help on Sunday to facilitate the worship service and to help in the church office at other times.

Safe Church Training

All adult volunteers who work with children at UBC have taken “Safe Church” Training to understand UBC’s policy on Childcare, Children, and Youth Programming. The policy requires that there be 2 trained, unrelated adults with children at all times. In addition, each adult undergoes a background check. The training must be retaken every 3 years. A copy of our Safe Church policy can be found by clicking here.
