Groton Community Meals

Reaching Out to our Community

"Neighbors supporting neighbors, one meal at a time"

Groton Community Meals (GCM) is an all volunteer, independent organization that serves free meals on Monday nights from 6-7 pm at the Groton's Thrive 55+ Active Learning Center and Wednesday nights from 6-7 pm at the Thames River Magnet Elementary School.

The mission of the non-profit organization is to provide a free meal program for those seeking fellowship and nourishment. GCM is managed by an 11 person Board of Directors. It is a working board where every member is actively involved in day-to-day operations.

GCM is a collaborative effort of local churches, local businesses, Groton Human Services and the general public. The organization began serving meals on September 8, 2014 and serves 300-400 meals per week. Meal guests are primarily from Groton, but all are welcome from any location. Approximately 65% of guests are age 18 to 59 years of age. 25% are age 60 plus and 10% are under the age of 18.

Cash donations from individuals and local churches and local community foundations have been GCM’s sole source of revenue to date. All donations to the organization are used in their entirety to purchase food, paper goods, cleaning supplies and mandatory licensing and certifications necessary to operate meal sites. Long term, the group hopes to expand the evening meal program to other nights of the week from a permanent location in Groton or at different locations throughout Groton.

GCM greatly values the relationship with Union Baptist Church. If you would like more information about GCM meal locations, their donation wish list or volunteering, please visit their website www.grotonmeals.org.
